How it is counted: a country counts for a week when at least one of its nationwide public holidays falls on a weekday (Monday–Friday) that week. A holiday on a weekend gives no one a day off, so it is not counted. Regional holidays are left out.

This shows when people are free to travel, not how crowded any place will be — we do not measure that here. Substitute working days (such as China’s make-up Saturdays) are not in the data.
