One Saturday under the white canopy
The O2 doesn’t look like an arena from outside. It looks like a huge white tent pinned to the Thames by twelve yellow masts, on a bend of the river opposite Canary Wharf. The concert hall sits inside that tent, along with a whole indoor street of restaurants and bars.
On Saturday 16 January 2027, aespa brings its world tour into that hall. The SM Entertainment group is Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. They debuted in November 2020 with “Black Mamba” and built their sound on tracks like “Next Level”, “Savage”, “Supernova” and “Whiplash”. Their fanbase calls itself MY, and on a show night the peninsula fills up with them.
Getting to the Greenwich Peninsula
The Jubilee line does almost all the work here. North Greenwich station opens straight onto the plaza in front of the dome, a few minutes’ walk from the arena doors. From central London, the line runs through Waterloo, London Bridge and Canary Wharf, so most visitors reach it with one change.
Other routes in:
- Uber Boat by Thames Clippers stops at North Greenwich Pier, beside the dome. Boats run along the river from central piers such as Westminster, Embankment and London Bridge City.
- The IFS Cloud Cable Car crosses the Thames from Royal Victoria on the DLR. Its operating hours change through the year, so it suits the journey in better than the late journey home.
- Buses use the bus station built into North Greenwich station, with routes to Greenwich, Woolwich and through the Blackwall Tunnel to Stratford.
The O2 has very little parking that makes sense on a sold-out night. The roads off the peninsula jam after big shows, and fans who drive usually regret it.
Inside the dome before doors
Under the canopy, the space between the outer tent and the arena is a covered walkway lined with chain restaurants, bars and a cinema. It keeps you dry, which matters in a London January when it’s dark by late afternoon and often wet.
Many fans make an afternoon of it. They eat on the indoor street, meet up with friends they know from fan chats, and queue at the merchandise stands. Merch lines at K-pop arena shows often outlast the walk from the station, and on a Saturday the dome’s restaurants also fill with non-concert visitors.
Entry into the arena itself goes through security with bag searches. Small bags clear the checks fastest. People with large backpacks or suitcases tend to lose time at the door.
The lightstick sea and the fanchant
What makes a K-pop arena night different is the crowd’s own part in the show. Most of the floor and tiers hold up aespa’s official lightstick. At many K-pop concerts, lightsticks can be paired over Bluetooth so the production team controls their colours from the desk, turning the bowl into a single moving picture.
Then there are the fanchants. During song intros and set breaks, MY call out the members’ names in a fixed order and shout set lines at set moments. Fan communities share chant guides for the big songs, and regulars learn them by heart. If you’re new, the person next to you will usually be glad to help.
Fan-made banners and slogan towels are a fixture too. Fans also hand out small free gifts (stickers, photocards, printed cards), often swapped in the queue outside.
Fan etiquette under the dome
There’s a shared code at these shows, and following it makes the night easier for everyone.
- Phones: most of the crowd films, but people near you expect phones held at chest height, not overhead for a whole song. Tablets held up high draw complaints fast.
- Lightsticks and banners: keep them below the eyeline of the row behind during the performance. Save the big banner moments for the planned fan-event songs.
- Standing areas: people on the floor hold their spot for hours. Leaving to buy a drink usually means giving it up.
- Payments: The O2’s bars and food outlets are geared to contactless card and phone payment.
- Language: the members speak English and Korean on stage. A shouted “saranghae” (I love you) or a member’s name lands well in the gaps.
Tickets and the resale trap
Tickets for arena shows at The O2 are sold through the venue’s authorised ticketing partners and the tour’s official sellers. Face-value resale, where it exists, goes through those same platforms.
Big K-pop dates draw a lot of unofficial resellers on social media. Fake or duplicated mobile tickets are a common way fans end up stuck at the turnstile. Fans usually stick to official platforms and keep their tickets in the official app, not as screenshots, because many arena tickets now use rotating barcodes.
The O2 also has accessible seating and an access booking route for disabled fans, run through its own access team.
The Jubilee line exit, and how fans beat it
The arena empties faster than North Greenwich station can take people. After big shows, staff often run queue control on the plaza and let people into the station in waves. The wait can be long, and a cold January night makes it feel longer.
Fans tend to handle this in a few ways:
- Stay inside the dome for a drink or a late bite while the first crush clears.
- Walk to the pier for an Uber Boat towards central London, if the evening timetable suits.
- Catch a bus from the station’s bus stands towards Greenwich or Stratford, then switch to the DLR or Overground.
- Stay nearby: hotels on the peninsula and around Canary Wharf mean a short trip home after the show.
Visitors from outside London often make a weekend of it. They spend the day before or after in Greenwich, at the Royal Observatory, the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Market. All three are a short bus ride or boat hop from the peninsula.
