Chichibu
Chichibu is a mountain-ringed pocket of Saitama Prefecture where old wooden shopfronts, a famous shrine known for its winter night festival, and the Chichibu Railway's vintage steam train sit against a backdrop of river gorges and terraced hills. It is close enough to Tokyo for a day trip, yet feels like a different, slower Japan of onsen towns, sake breweries, and seasonal flower fields.
