Tainan has its own small airport (TNN), but it mainly handles domestic and a few regional flights, so most travellers arrive by rail: take the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) to Tainan HSR Station, then transfer via the connecting Shalun line to reach Tainan's downtown TRA station. Coming from Taipei or Kaohsiung, the conventional Taiwan Railway (TRA) line into Tainan Station is also a reliable, city-centre option.
