Seven days of snooker at Meadowbank
The tournament runs for a full week. The BetVictor Scottish Open plays Meadowbank Sports Centre from 14 to 20 December 2026. It is one of the four Home Nations events, alongside the English, Northern Ireland and Welsh Opens, and it counts toward the world rankings.
The early days put several tables in the hall at once, so a single ticket shows you several matches running side by side. As the draw gets smaller, the tables come out until one remains for the final on Sunday 20 December. The winner lifts the Stephen Hendry Trophy, named after Scotland’s seven-time world champion.
Tickets and sessions
Snooker sells its tickets by session, not by day. World Snooker Tour publishes the dates, session structure and ticket links on its official site, and that is where pricing is posted. Each session is a block of play in the afternoon or evening.
What fans usually do:
- Choose early rounds to see the most players and tables for one ticket
- Choose the weekend for the semi-finals and final on a single table
- Book an afternoon and an evening session on the same day, with dinner in between
Getting to London Road
Meadowbank Sports Centre sits on London Road, in the Meadowbank district east of the Old Town. The centre is new, built on the site of the old Meadowbank Stadium. Lothian Buses run along London Road from Leith Street and the east end of Princes Street. From Edinburgh Waverley station, the bus is the simplest link.
Walking takes about 30–40 minutes from Waverley, passing below Calton Hill. Hibernian’s Easter Road stadium is a few streets north. Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat are south of the venue. In mid-December it is dark by about 4pm, so the evening crowd walks home along lit main roads.
Sitting through a frame at Meadowbank
Snooker crowds go silent during shots. Nobody moves, talks or rustles a bag while a player is down on a shot. Regulars take their seats during the interval or between frames. Stewards at the doors hold latecomers until a frame ends, so missing the first frame of a session is normal for anyone running late.
Phones stay on silent, and camera flash is not allowed. Applause comes after a good pot, a safety exchange or a century break, and players often acknowledge a big clearance with a raised cue. Cheering for one player during his opponent’s shot gets a look from the referee.
Away from the tables, many visitors pair the week with Edinburgh’s Christmas markets in East Princes Street Gardens. Others stay in Leith or Abbeyhill, both close to London Road and the venue’s bus routes.
