One night, one room on Oxford Road
The date is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That evening &Team, the Japanese-Korean boy group, bring their world tour to Manchester Academy 2. It’s the city’s only stop on this run.
The room is a big part of the story. Academy 2 is the middle room of the Manchester Academy complex. It is much smaller than the main hall next door and a world away from an arena bowl. On a K-pop tour that usually means a crowd packed close to the stage, with almost no seat far from the action.
Who &Team are
&Team came out of HYBE’s 2021 survival show I-LAND and debuted in Japan in December 2022. They’re a nine-member group: EJ, Fuma, K, Nicholas, Yuma, Jo, Harua, Taki and Maki. The line-up mixes Japanese, Korean and other backgrounds, which is why they’re usually called a Japanese-Korean act.
Their fandom is called LUNÉ, a name you’ll see on banners, on homemade merch and in the chants that roll through the queue. The group’s concept leans on wolf and moon imagery, and that tends to show up in what fans wear on the night.
Manchester Academy 2, explained
The Academy sits inside the University of Manchester Students’ Union on Oxford Road, in the student district south of the city centre. Three venues share the building, numbered by size. Academy 2 is the middle one, with a standing floor facing a raised stage.
Because the room is compact, sightlines depend on where you stand. Fans who want the barrier usually queue outside the Students’ Union for a long time. Fans who would rather have space to breathe tend to hang back near the bar and sound desk, where the view over the crowd is still clear in a room this size.
Door times, age rules and the bag policy are set by the venue and promoter for each show. The ticket and the venue’s event page are where those details live.
Getting to Oxford Road on a school night
Oxford Road is one of the busiest bus corridors in Europe, and that’s the easiest way in. Buses run south from Piccadilly Gardens and the city centre past the university buildings. Most stop within a few minutes’ walk of the Students’ Union.
On foot or by train:
- Manchester Oxford Road station: roughly a 15–20 minute walk south along Oxford Road, past the university buildings.
- Manchester Piccadilly station: about 25 minutes on foot, or a short bus ride. This is the main arrival point for anyone coming from London, Birmingham or Manchester Airport.
- Taxis and ride-hailing: these jam up around the Students’ Union at kick-out, so many fans walk a few streets north before getting picked up.
Driving is the least practical choice. Parking around the campus is limited and Oxford Road has bus-only stretches.
The queue, the lightsticks and the freebies
K-pop shows in UK club venues follow their own routine, and the Academy queue is part of it. Fans usually line up along the Students’ Union frontage. Plenty of fans swap phone numbers or group-chat handles so they can hold places for each other. Turning up and pushing in is the quickest way to make the whole line turn against you.
What fans typically bring:
- The official &Team lightstick, if they own one. Fans hold it up for the whole set, so a spare power bank is common.
- Freebies: small fan-made gifts such as photocards, stickers and keyrings, handed out free along the queue. Fans usually carry a few to swap back.
- Layers: a Manchester November queue is cold and often wet, and the room heats up fast once it’s full.
Paying for things inside a UK venue is almost always contactless card or phone, and nobody tips at the bar. Merch tables at K-pop shows draw their own long line. Plenty of fans buy before the set and ride out the wait, rather than lose the end of the night to it.
A Tuesday in early November
The timing shapes the whole evening. It’s a weeknight, so the Oxford Road buses fill with commuters and students in the late afternoon. By the time the queue is at its longest, it has been dark for hours. Manchester sunsets in early November come not long after half past four.
The date also falls just before Bonfire Night on November 5. Fireworks going off across south Manchester that week are normal. Don’t be surprised to hear bangs over the rooftops while you wait outside.
For fans travelling in from elsewhere in the UK or Europe, a Tuesday show usually means a hotel night. Many book rooms near Piccadilly or Oxford Road, which keeps the trip home to a short walk or one bus.
Before and after the show
The streets around the Academy are good for filling a long wait. A few minutes’ walk away:
- Manchester Museum: the university’s natural history and archaeology museum, on Oxford Road itself.
- The Whitworth: an art gallery set in Whitworth Park, just south of the Students’ Union.
- The Curry Mile: Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, a straight continuation south. It’s lined with South Asian and Middle Eastern restaurants that stay busy late.
Closer in, the takeaways and cafés along Oxford Road do most of the pre-show trade, since the line itself is right there. After the encore, the crowd heads north towards the city centre or south towards Rusholme. The buses either way fill quickly for the first half hour.
