Ranking points, six days, one city
This is a ranking-point tournament. The Infosys Foundation India International Challenge runs from Tuesday, November 3 to Sunday, November 8, 2026, and brings international competitors to Bengaluru. International Challenge is a tier of the Badminton World Federation’s circuit, so results here count towards world ranking points.
The grade shapes what you see. Draws at this level usually mix rising juniors, national-team prospects and experienced players chasing points. The five standard disciplines run alongside each other:
- Men’s singles
- Women’s singles
- Men’s doubles
- Women’s doubles
- Mixed doubles
The title sponsor, Infosys Foundation, is the philanthropic arm of Infosys, whose headquarters is in Bengaluru’s Electronic City.
How the week builds
The early days bring volume and the weekend brings the big matches. At events of this grade, the opening days usually carry qualifying and early rounds. Several courts run at once with matches back to back, so a spectator can move between courts and see a dozen players in an afternoon.
The draws narrow through the week. Semi-finals usually fall on Saturday, November 7, and finals on Sunday, November 8, when play typically shrinks to one show court. For BWF-sanctioned events, draws, order of play and results appear on the BWF’s tournament software platform, and that is where the court-by-court schedule lives.
Watching from the stands
Badminton halls have their own etiquette. Fans and strong air conditioning are usually kept low because moving air pushes a shuttle off line, so halls often run warm. Regulars tend to bring:
- Light, breathable clothing
- A refillable water bottle
- A phone with the order of play open
Spectators stay seated during rallies and move only between points or at the interval. The interval comes when the leading player reaches 11 in a game. Flash photography is off-limits because players are tracking a shuttle at speed. Home players usually get the loudest support, and the noise stops on the serve.
Across Bengaluru, people mostly pay by UPI. QR codes are standard at snack counters and in auto-rickshaws, and cards work at larger outlets. Visitors without an Indian bank account usually carry some cash or use a ride app’s card payment instead.
Getting around Bengaluru in November
November is one of Bengaluru’s mild months. The southwest monsoon is over, days are warm and evenings cool, and the odd shower blows in from the northeast monsoon.
Kempegowda International Airport is about 40 km north of the city centre. Depending on traffic, the road trip in usually takes an hour or more. Inside the city, Namma Metro’s Purple and Green lines cross at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda station (Majestic). Most visitors combine the metro with one of these:
- Uber or Ola
- Namma Yatri, the local auto-rickshaw app
- A metered auto-rickshaw hailed on the street
Weekday rush hours clog the main roads in the morning and evening. Spectators going to evening sessions on November 3–6 usually leave extra time for the trip.
Badminton fans in town for the week sometimes add a look at the city’s badminton culture. Bengaluru is home to the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, named after the former All England champion.
