Six days of shuttles on the Brahmaputra
The draw starts small and gets sharper every day. From Tuesday, December 1 to Sunday, December 6, 2026, the Guwahati Masters fills Guwahati’s indoor courts with five events:
- Men’s singles
- Women’s singles
- Men’s doubles
- Women’s doubles
- Mixed doubles
Super 100 is the entry tier of the BWF World Tour. Rising players use it to collect ranking points, and the singles winners take home 5,500.
The field leans young and Asian. You will often see Indian juniors facing seeded players from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and Chinese Taipei. Many of them go on to play the Super 300 and Super 500 circuit within a season or two.
Reading the week
The opening days are the busiest on court. Qualifying and the first rounds run on several courts at once, so a single session can mean dozens of matches. You can wander between courts and watch an Indian doubles pair on one and a Thai singles player on the next.
The court count shrinks as the week goes on. Quarterfinals usually fall on Friday and semifinals on Saturday. The five finals share Sunday, December 6, which is the session most local fans pick if they only come for one day.
Each match is best of three games to 21 points. Most matches finish inside an hour, though a tight three-gamer in men’s doubles can run longer.
In the stands at a Guwahati tournament
Badminton crowds here follow a few unwritten rules:
- Spectators stay seated during rallies and move only between points or games. Doorways usually stay closed while a rally is live.
- Flash photography is out. A shuttle moving at full speed is hard enough to pick up without one.
- Cheering is loud for Indian players. A home win in a deciding game can get the whole hall on its feet, so expect noise.
- People pay for food and transport mostly by UPI. Uber, Ola and Rapido cover the city for rides back to GS Road or Paltan Bazaar.
The tournament is run under the Badminton Association of India, and the BWF tournament calendar carries each Super 100 event’s draws and results. December in Guwahati is dry and cool, and the evenings get chilly. Fans heading home from late sessions usually bring a light jacket.
Around the matches
Most visitors fly into Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) at Borjhar, west of the city. Others arrive at Guwahati Railway Station beside Paltan Bazaar. Players’ families and travelling fans tend to stay along GS Road or around Paltan Bazaar, which puts most of the city a short cab ride away.
Mornings before a late session are good for sightseeing:
- Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill, one of India’s most important Shakti shrines
- Umananda Island, reached by ferry from Uzan Bazar, with a Shiva temple on the river
- The Brahmaputra riverfront, where locals gather at sunset
With a spare day after the Sunday final, many visitors drive east to Kaziranga National Park. The trip takes most of a day, and the park is known for one-horned rhinos.
The other half of the double-header is the Odisha Masters in Cuttack, another Super 100 event. Several players enter both, so the same names often turn up in both draws.
