Four Weeks of Franchise Cricket
The fifth ILT20 season runs from November 22 to December 20, 2026. It is a franchise Twenty20 league with six city-branded teams that mix international stars with UAE players. Dubai Capitals, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriorz have all contested past seasons.
A T20 match lasts roughly three and a half hours. The fixture list includes weekend doubleheaders, so one ticket day can cover two games. The league publishes its fixtures and ticket links on its official website.
The Three Grounds
Matches are spread across three stadiums:
- Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai Sports City, off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). It seats about 25,000 and is known for its “ring of fire” floodlights, which run around the roof rim instead of standing on tall pylons.
- Sharjah Cricket Stadium, in Sharjah city. It holds the record for hosting the most one-day internationals of any ground, and its stands sit tight to a small boundary.
- Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. It is the largest of the three and has a wide, open bowl.
If you are based in Dubai, the Sports City ground is the short trip. Sharjah is about 30 minutes to an hour by road, depending on traffic. Abu Dhabi is around 90 minutes.
Reaching Dubai Sports City
No metro station serves the Dubai stadium. Fans usually travel by RTA taxi, Careem or Uber. Ride-hail queues get long when the final over ends, so many people walk toward Motor City before ordering a pickup.
The nearest hotels are in Dubai Sports City, Motor City and Al Barsha South. Visitors staying in Dubai Marina or JLT are about 20 minutes away by car outside rush hour. Late November and December are the mildest months of the Dubai year. Evenings are usually in the low twenties Celsius, which makes night games under the lights comfortable.
In the Stands, UAE-Style
The crowd is big and loud, and much of it comes from the UAE’s Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi and Afghan communities. Drums, flags and chanting are standard. Fans tend to adopt the franchise linked to their favourite overseas star more than the one named after their emirate.
- Paying: cards and Apple Pay are accepted almost everywhere. Kiosk prices are on the counter boards.
- Tickets: most fans carry mobile e-tickets on their phone. Gates scan QR codes, and bags are searched at entry.
- Dress: shorts and team shirts are normal. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees suits the family stands and local norms.
- Behaviour: the UAE takes public conduct seriously. Abusive chanting, obscene gestures and drunkenness can lead to ejection or worse. Alcohol is only sold in designated licensed areas, where a venue has one.
- Timing: during doubleheaders, many spectators arrive for the second, evening match, so the first game is usually played to a thinner crowd.
Flags of competing nations are welcome. Political banners are not.
