Coloane
Coloane is Macau's quiet, green southern corner: a former pirate-haunted fishing island now joined to the rest of the territory by reclaimed land, where a pastel-painted village, a baroque chapel and pine-backed beaches stand in deliberate contrast to the casino skyline across the water. It is the closest thing Macau has to a slow afternoon, with narrow lanes, old bakeries and small temples replacing neon and slot machines.

Frequently asked questions about Coloane
How do I get to Coloane?
Coloane has no airport or station of its own; travellers reach it overland from Macau International Airport (MFM) or the Taipa and Macau Peninsula hubs, typically by public bus (routes serving Coloane Village and Seac Pai Van Park are run by Transmac and TCM) or by taxi, with the ride from the airport taking roughly 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and route. There is no rail line directly into Coloane, so the Macau LRT is only useful as far as the nearby Taipa stations, from which a bus or taxi covers the final stretch.
How many days should I spend in Coloane?
Plan on around 1 day to cover Coloane's highlights at an easy pace, enough time for the village, chapel, waterfront and a beach stop, with an extra half day if you want to linger over the beaches or hiking trails.
