Pick Travel eSIM
Solo or two, 5 days: a travel eSIM is close to the right answer. Install it at home, it connects as you land, and it is usually the cheapest per GB.

Mobile networks in Macau
CTM3 MacauChina Telecom (Macau)
Macau has three mobile networks: CTM, 3 Macau (Hutchison) and China Telecom (Macau). It is its own telecom market, separate from both Hong Kong and mainland China, so the thing to check before you buy is whether a regional plan names Macau at all: many Hong Kong and China plans stop at the border.
The whole territory is small: the peninsula, Taipa, Cotai and Coloane together are a short bus or taxi ride end to end, and the networks serve all of it. Free public WiFi runs under the FreeWiFi.MO name, so a modest data plan covers a typical stay.
Know this first in Macau
If you arrive on the ferry or bridge bus from Hong Kong, confirm your eSIM covers Macau separately: a Hong Kong-only plan leaves you offline the moment you land.
Will an eSIM work on my phone?
Two things must both be true: the phone supports eSIM, and it is not locked to a carrier. A locked phone can install an eSIM and still never connect.
Most iPhones from the XS and XR on support eSIM; of those sold in mainland China, only a few recent models do, and inside mainland China an eSIM from abroad cannot be installed. Lock status: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should read “No SIM restrictions”.
Menu names differ by maker, and the same model can lack eSIM depending on the country it was sold in. No menu? Use the EID check above.
Answer the two questionsAn EID plus an unlocked phone means a travel eSIM will work.

What to look for in a Macau plan
- Days first, data second — a plan that expires mid-trip is worse than one that runs a little low.
- Hotspot/tethering allowed, if you travel with a laptop or share with a partner.
- Which local network it uses — see above; coverage beats a small price difference.
- A top-up option, so you can extend without installing a new eSIM.
- Data-only is normal: most travel eSIMs come without a phone number, and calls happen over WhatsApp or FaceTime anyway.
Good to know in Macau
- A trip that continues into mainland China (Zhuhai is next door) needs a plan that covers the mainland too, and Google services do not work there; save the maps you need while still in Macau.
- Look for the FreeWiFi.MO network at tourist sites and public buildings to save data.

Frequently asked questions
Will WhatsApp and my phone number still work?
Yes. Keep your home SIM installed and WhatsApp stays tied to your usual number while data flows through the travel eSIM.
Can I share the data with my laptop?
Usually yes, via your phone's hotspot — but some plans block tethering, so check the plan details before buying.
When should I buy and install it?
A few days before departure, on home WiFi. Enable it when you land — unless the plan starts at install, which is why you check the activation rule first.
My phone doesn't support eSIM — now what?
A physical tourist SIM on arrival or a pocket WiFi rental still works fine — the comparison above applies the same way.
Why are there no prices on this page?
Because they change weekly. A price table would mislead you within a month, so we link to live pricing instead.
