One Wednesday, three voices
This is a harmony show in a basketball arena. Boyz II Men play Indonesia Arena in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 9, 2026, and the room that hosts them was built for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The group formed in Philadelphia in the 1980s and signed to Motown. In the 1990s they spent weeks at a time at number one on the US charts. “End of the Road” held the top spot for 13 weeks, “I’ll Make Love to You” for 14, and “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey for 16.
Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman are the line-up that carries the name today. Nobody has published a setlist here. The catalogue people come to hear is still “Motownphilly”, “On Bended Knee”, “Water Runs Dry” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”.
Indonesia Arena, inside the GBK fence
The venue sits inside Gelora Bung Karno. That is the large sports complex in Senayan, and it also holds the national stadium and Istora Senayan. Indonesia Arena opened in 2023 as the country’s biggest indoor arena, with seating for roughly 16,000.
Inside, it works like a modern bowl. Tiered stands wrap a flat floor, and for concerts that floor is usually cleared for standing or seated sections, depending on the organiser’s layout. Signs label the stands as tribun and the gates as pintu. Those two words tell you where you’re headed.
GBK is a big site. Between the outer gates and the arena doors there are long paved walkways, tree-lined boulevards and open plazas. Give the walk real time in your head, especially coming from the Sudirman side.
Reaching Senayan without a car
On a weekday evening, the train is the easy way in. The MRT Jakarta North–South Line runs under Jalan Sudirman, and two stations serve the complex:
- Istora Mandiri: the station closest to the Istora and GBK side of Sudirman.
- Senayan: one stop south, handy for Plaza Senayan and FX Sudirman.
TransJakarta Corridor 1 runs along the same road, with its own dedicated bus lanes and a GBK stop. Ride-hailing is everywhere through Gojek and Grab. An ojek (motorbike taxi) is often the quickest way through jams, as long as you don’t mind a helmet over your hair.
If you’re staying in the Kota or Monas area to the north, the MRT goes straight down from Bundaran HI. If you’re in the south, around Blok M or Fatmawati, it comes up from Lebak Bulus.
A Wednesday night on Sudirman
Most Jakarta concerts land on a Friday or Saturday. This one falls on a working Wednesday, and the date changes the evening.
Jalan Sudirman is the city’s main office corridor. At the end of the working day it carries some of Jakarta’s heaviest traffic, and the odd-even number-plate rule limits private cars on it during weekday peak hours. A taxi from a hotel only a few kilometres away can take far longer than the map suggests. That’s why so many concertgoers switch to the MRT, or ride a motorbike taxi to the nearest station and take the train from there.
December brings its own complication. It’s the middle of Jakarta’s rainy season, and heavy downpours often arrive in the afternoon or evening. Outdoor walkways get slick and ride-hailing prices surge in a storm. Regulars carry a compact umbrella or a light poncho for the stretch between the station and the arena doors.
Gates, IDs and the way Jakarta queues
Indonesian arena concerts run on their own routines. Knowing them makes the gate easy.
The organiser and its official ticketing partner hold the seat map, entry rules and ticket links. Tickets for big shows here are commonly tied to the buyer’s name. Fans usually bring the same ID they bought with: a KTP for residents, a passport for visitors. Some events also swap e-tickets for wristbands at a separate redemption point before entry, which adds another queue.
A few habits that hold up at GBK:
- Payment: food and merchandise stalls around Jakarta venues commonly take QRIS, the national QR standard, plus GoPay, OVO and cards. A little cash covers the stalls that don’t.
- Bags: security checks at the door are normal. Large bags, outside food and professional cameras are the usual things stopped. The organiser’s terms set the exact list.
- Resale: buying from strangers outside the gate is how fans in Jakarta most often end up with void tickets, because the name on them doesn’t match their ID.
- Language: staff at the gates mostly speak Indonesian. “Pintu berapa?” (which gate?) and “terima kasih” (thank you) go a long way.
On the way out, thousands of people open Gojek and Grab at once. Pickups pile up at the GBK exits. Many fans walk out to Plaza Senayan, Senayan City or FX Sudirman and book from there, or take the MRT back.
Eating and sleeping around Senayan
You won’t go hungry here. Four big malls sit within walking distance or one short ride of the arena:
- FX Sudirman: right on the Sudirman edge of GBK, with casual chains and coffee.
- Plaza Senayan: an upscale mall with sit-down restaurants and a large food floor.
- Senayan City: across the road from Plaza Senayan, with a wide restaurant mix.
- Senayan Park (SPARK): on the western side of the complex, with open-air dining.
For something more local, Jakarta’s office districts fill at lunch and dinner with stalls and food courts selling nasi goreng, soto and sate. The tenant lists inside the Senayan malls lean the same way.
Hotels ring the complex. The Fairmont Jakarta, Hotel Mulia Senayan and The Sultan Hotel all sit close enough to walk to GBK, which takes the Sudirman traffic out of the night completely. Further up the MRT line, hotels around Bundaran HI and Thamrin are a few stops away.
The longer view
Boyz II Men have toured Asia steadily for decades. Their audience here mixes people who grew up with 1990s radio and younger listeners who found the songs later.
Expect a seated, singalong crowd rather than a mosh. The big ballads are where the arena gets loudest. On a working Wednesday, with a train home on the line that brought you in, that tends to make the night simple.
Frequently asked questions
When and where is Boyz II Men Jakarta 2026?
It takes place on Wednesday, December 9, 2026, at Indonesia Arena. The arena is inside the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
How do I get to Indonesia Arena by public transport?
Take the MRT Jakarta North–South Line to Istora Mandiri or Senayan station, both on Jalan Sudirman beside GBK. TransJakarta Corridor 1 also stops at GBK. From any of these, it's a walk through the complex to the arena.
Where do tickets come from, and do I need ID?
Tickets, seat maps and entry rules come from the concert's organiser and its official ticketing partner. Indonesian arena shows commonly tie tickets to the buyer's name, so fans usually bring the ID they bought with: a passport for visitors, a KTP for residents.
What should I expect from the weather and traffic?
December is Jakarta's rainy season, and evening downpours are common. The show is on a weekday, so Sudirman traffic is heavy at the end of the working day. Many attendees take the MRT and carry a compact umbrella.
Where can I eat or stay near the venue?
FX Sudirman, Plaza Senayan, Senayan City and Senayan Park all have restaurants and food courts close to GBK. The Fairmont Jakarta, Hotel Mulia Senayan and The Sultan Hotel are near enough to walk to the complex.
