Tokyo Game Show turns 30 in 2026, and organizers have stretched it to five days, its longest run yet. Dates are September 17-21 at Makuhari Messe, the same convention complex that has hosted TGS for decades.

The first two days, September 17-18, are business days: press, industry, and trade visitors only. Public days are September 19-21, when the show floor opens to anyone with a ticket. Expect major Japanese and international publishers, hands-on playable demos, esports stages, and indie developer booths across Makuhari Messe’s halls.

Getting to Makuhari Messe

Makuhari Messe sits in Mihama Ward, Chiba, about 30-40 minutes from central Tokyo by train. The closest station is Kaihin-Makuhari on the JR Keiyo Line, roughly a 5-minute walk from the venue.

From Tokyo Station, take the JR Keiyo Line direct to Kaihin-Makuhari; no transfers needed. If you’re coming from Narita Airport, a train plus one transfer usually gets you there in under an hour. Driving is possible but parking fills fast on public days, so trains are the practical choice.

Tickets and cost

TGS ticketing typically runs through an official advance-sale system, with same-day tickets sometimes sold at the venue in limited numbers on public days. Business-day access requires industry credentials, not a public ticket. Pricing and sales windows shift year to year, so don’t rely on old numbers.

Making the most of the show floor

Arriving right when doors open on a public day is the simplest way to beat the worst of the queues later in the morning. Bring a portable charger: you’ll be scanning tickets, checking event apps, and taking photos all day, and outlets near the halls are scarce. Coin lockers near the main entrances fill up early, so stow bags before you head deep into the halls.

Food inside the venue is convention-priced and lines get long at midday; eating a bit earlier or later than the noon rush saves time. Cash and IC cards (Suica/Pasmo) both work for transit and most vendors, but keep some cash on hand for smaller stalls.
