Pick Travel eSIM
Solo or two, 5 days: a travel eSIM is close to the right answer. Install it at home, it connects as you land, and it is usually the cheapest per GB.

Mobile networks in Peru
ClaroMovistarEntelBitel
Peru has four mobile networks: Claro, Movistar, Entel and Bitel. A travel eSIM from an international seller rides on one of them; check which one it names before you buy, and if your route goes deep into the Andes or the Amazon, compare the networks for the places you will actually be on Checa tu señal, the free coverage map run by OSIPTEL, the telecoms regulator.
Signal is reliable in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Puno, Iquitos and the larger towns. Between towns it thins out fast: high Andean passes, the trek to Rainbow Mountain, the floor of the Colca Canyon, multi-day hikes such as the Inca Trail and the Amazon outside Iquitos can have little or no coverage.
Know this first in Peru
OSIPTEL says a phone bought abroad and used with a Peruvian line has to be registered with that carrier on its whitelist, or the phone may be blocked. The carrier does it at one of its own stores, with the phone in hand and your ID. A travel eSIM from a foreign provider is set up before you fly.
Will an eSIM work on my phone?
Two things must both be true: the phone supports eSIM, and it is not locked to a carrier. A locked phone can install an eSIM and still never connect.
Most iPhones from the XS and XR on support eSIM; of those sold in mainland China, only a few recent models do, and inside mainland China an eSIM from abroad cannot be installed. Lock status: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should read “No SIM restrictions”.
Menu names differ by maker, and the same model can lack eSIM depending on the country it was sold in. No menu? Use the EID check above.
Answer the two questionsAn EID plus an unlocked phone means a travel eSIM will work.

What to look for in a Peru plan
- Days first, data second — a plan that expires mid-trip is worse than one that runs a little low.
- Hotspot/tethering allowed, if you travel with a laptop or share with a partner.
- Which local network it uses — see above; coverage beats a small price difference.
- A top-up option, so you can extend without installing a new eSIM.
- Data-only is normal: most travel eSIMs come without a phone number, and calls happen over WhatsApp or FaceTime anyway.
Good to know in Peru
- Download offline maps and save your train tickets, tour pick-up details and hotel addresses before heading to Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain or the Colca Canyon.
- Iquitos cannot be reached by road, only by plane or river boat, so have your onward bookings saved on the phone before you fly in.

Frequently asked questions
Will WhatsApp and my phone number still work?
Yes. Keep your home SIM installed and WhatsApp stays tied to your usual number while data flows through the travel eSIM.
Can I share the data with my laptop?
Usually yes, via your phone's hotspot — but some plans block tethering, so check the plan details before buying.
When should I buy and install it?
A few days before departure, on home WiFi. Enable it when you land — unless the plan starts at install, which is why you check the activation rule first.
My phone doesn't support eSIM — now what?
A physical tourist SIM on arrival or a pocket WiFi rental still works fine — the comparison above applies the same way.
Why are there no prices on this page?
Because they change weekly. A price table would mislead you within a month, so we link to live pricing instead.
