Pick Travel eSIM

Solo or two, 5 days: a travel eSIM is close to the right answer. Install it at home, it connects as you land, and it is usually the cheapest per GB.

Mobile networks in Singapore

SingtelStarHubM1

Singapore's three networks — Singtel, StarHub and M1 — blanket one of the world's most connected cities. Every travel eSIM works well here; there is no coverage strategy to think about, only how much data you want.

Coverage is total: full-speed signal in the MRT tunnels, in basements of malls, on Sentosa's beaches and across the entire island. Singapore is the rare destination where the coverage section of this guide has nothing to warn you about.

Know this first in Singapore

Small plans go far: the city is dense, distances are short, and free WiFi saturates malls, hotels and the airport — you mostly need data in transit.

30-second check

Will an eSIM work on my phone?

Two things must both be true: the phone supports eSIM, and it is not locked to a carrier. A locked phone can install an eSIM and still never connect.

Fastest way*#06#Dial it in your phone app — if an EID appears in the list, the phone supports eSIM.
Settings → Mobile data (Cellular) → if “Add eSIM” is there, it is supported

Most iPhones from the XS and XR on support eSIM; of those sold in mainland China, only a few recent models do, and inside mainland China an eSIM from abroad cannot be installed. Lock status: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should read “No SIM restrictions”.

Does *#06# show an EID?
Is the phone carrier-unlocked?

Answer the two questionsAn EID plus an unlocked phone means a travel eSIM will work.

What to look for in a Singapore plan

  1. Days first, data second — a plan that expires mid-trip is worse than one that runs a little low.
  2. Hotspot/tethering allowed, if you travel with a laptop or share with a partner.
  3. Which local network it uses — see above; coverage beats a small price difference.
  4. A top-up option, so you can extend without installing a new eSIM.
  5. Data-only is normal: most travel eSIMs come without a phone number, and calls happen over WhatsApp or FaceTime anyway.

Good to know in Singapore

  • Grab, MRT maps and hawker-centre queues via Google Maps are the daily data uses; nothing here is data-heavy.
  • Changi sells SIMs efficiently on arrival, but an eSIM means you exit straight to the Jewel waterfall instead of a counter.
  • Using Singapore as a hub? Consider a regional Asia eSIM covering Singapore + Malaysia + Indonesia in one plan for multi-stop trips.

Frequently asked questions

Will WhatsApp and my phone number still work?

Yes. Keep your home SIM installed and WhatsApp stays tied to your usual number while data flows through the travel eSIM.

Can I share the data with my laptop?

Usually yes, via your phone's hotspot — but some plans block tethering, so check the plan details before buying.

When should I buy and install it?

A few days before departure, on home WiFi. Enable it when you land — unless the plan starts at install, which is why you check the activation rule first.

My phone doesn't support eSIM — now what?

A physical tourist SIM on arrival or a pocket WiFi rental still works fine — the comparison above applies the same way.

Why are there no prices on this page?

Because they change weekly. A price table would mislead you within a month, so we link to live pricing instead.
